Our Mission
The Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies (HIAS) fosters scientific excellence to advance knowledge and support human well-being. HIAS is a non-profit, private foundation initiated by the Hellenic diaspora in order to:
- Create bridges and foster scientific exchanges between the Hellenic diaspora and their peers in Greece.
- Establish interdisciplinary collaborations on problems of scientific and societal relevance including Artificial Intelligence, Computing, Energy, Health, Agriculture and Transportation.
HIAS is founded on scientific excellence and integrates the strengths of the entire Hellenic scientific community independent of any personal or political affiliation.

Ashford Educational Scholarship Recipients
Being a recipient of the Nicholas and Robert Askounes Ashford Educational Scholarship has been an extraordinary opportunity for which I am deeply grateful. The scholarship allowed me to spend two months at Yale University, where I conducted research in learning theory under the mentorship of Professor Manolis Zampetakis.
One year ago I would not have imagined winning a scholarship and conducting research for one of the best institutions in the world. However, Professor Ashford and the Hellenic Institute for Advanced Studies believed in me, my capabilities and potential. And for that, I will be forever indebted to them. Words are not enough to describe this three-month experience.
Overall, it was a unique experience, I truly learned something different every day, I met a lot of great people and made memories that I will remember forever.
Τhe HIAS Ashford Scholarship has been a defining moment in my life. Completing this scholarship has equipped me with the knowledge, experience, and motivation to pursue my dream of conducting research in fluid mechanics. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I will always remember how much I owe to HIAS.
