HIAS Board on the Draft Law of the Ministry of National Defense – in Kathimerini Newspaper
The Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies has contributed its views to the public dialogue on the new Draft Law of the Ministry of National Defense concerning conscription, as published in KATHIMERINI on December 11, 2025:
The HIAS Board expresses concerns regarding provisions that affect young Greek scientists pursuing studies and research careers abroad, particularly in relation to deferments, transitional arrangements, and the definition of permanent residence overseas.
At the same time, HIAS puts forward constructive recommendations aimed at:
- safeguarding fairness and legal certainty,
- maintaining strong links between the scientific diaspora and Greece,
- and enabling the country to better leverage its highly skilled human capital in ways that also serve national interests.
HIAS remains committed to evidence-based dialogue and policy input that supports both national priorities and the long-term vitality of Greek science and innovation.
